Magnum Les Champauvins 2021 Domaine Grand Veneur - Alain Jaume 150cl
The 2021 Côtes-du-Rhône "Les Champauvins" from Vignobles Grand Veneur is a wine that reflects a unique terroir located at the northern edge of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC. The 34 hectares of vines are planted on soil rich in marine molasses and rolled pebbles, which accumulate heat during the day and release it at night, promoting optimal ripening of the grapes.
This blend is composed of 70% Grenache Noir, 20% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre. Vinification is carried out traditionally in stainless steel vats, with an 18-day vatting period and regular punching down. The Grenaches are aged in vats, while the Syrah and Mourvèdre spend 12 months in 3- to 4-year-old oak barrels.
Upon tasting, this wine stands out for its intense garnet red color and rich aromatic bouquet, revealing aromas of black fruits, garrigue, and spices. On the palate, it is full-bodied and smooth, with a tight but well-integrated tannic structure, brought by the roundness of the Grenache. The finish is persistent, with slightly spicy notes of pepper and licorice. Robert Parker even called it a "baby Châteauneuf," highlighting its exceptional quality.
This Côtes-du-Rhône is best enjoyed between 1 and 5 years, with the most structured vintages having a aging potential of up to 8 years. It is recommended to serve it at a temperature of 16°C to fully appreciate all its nuances.
